FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What size rig do I need?

It will depend on the size of bait used:

  • Small rig - baits 10-15cm (4-6 inches)
  • Medium rig - baits 15-25cm (6-8 inches)
  • Extra Large rig - baits 30-45cm (11-18 inches)
What depth do they dive to?

Depend on how much line is out, on average they will dive to 1-2m (3-6 feet)

What speed should I troll them at?

3-6 knots (~5-10kmh) but will depend on the bait used, current and how far back they are run.

Can I buy the rigs bare and fit my own terminal tackle?

Yes, we sell all sizes bare so you can run hooks and components to suit your target species.

What tackle is used on the assembled Reaper Rigs?

Currently we run 44lb single strand wire and size 4 trebles but we are looking at upgrading the stingers to 60lb mulstistrand wire and size 2 trebles.

Can I run the bait frozen?

No, the bait need to be fully thawed and pliable to achieve a consistent swimming action.

Can I run the bait upside down?

Absolutely, if the bait is a little soft it is often better to run it upside down in the rig and have the hooks inserted into the back rather than the soft belly.

Will the small rigs target smaller fish?

Definitely not, it has been proven very large predatory fish will still strike a small bait.

Do I need to run a skirt on the leader wire?

No, sometimes the fish may prefer no skirt on the day.

Are replacement treble assemblies available if the wire is kinked when landing a fish?

Yes, we sell 3 packs of the treble assemblies (stingers) in both short and long (for gar/ballyhoo) lengths.

What size split rings should I run?

We find size 5 is best for the small rigs, size 6 for the medium and size 7 for the extra large rigs.  It is important not to stretch them during installation which can cause the wire to work its way out of the split ring.

What is standard international shipping?

This method uses the postal service and can take 2-4 weeks to most countries on average.

Is there faster shipping available?

Yes, you can opt for DHL Express shipping which typically takes under one week but costs more than the standard international postage.

Are tariffs and or import duties including in the pricing?

No, due to ever changing import charges in each country we cannot calculate and include tariffs so it is best to check with your governing body what charges may be applicable.

Can I buy them off Amazon US?
